Color Outside the Lines – Rodney

30 × 24 inches | Wrapped canvas
Tempera paint
Artist: Rodney, chimpanzee

Rodney doesn’t do much halfway, and this painting certainly doesn’t hold back on color.

A riot of color fills this large canvas, with bold strokes of red, blue, green, purple and yellow crossing, curling and overlapping in every direction. Thick ribbons of paint create surprising combinations of color, while scattered drips and splashes extend beyond the central composition. There’s an exuberance to this painting that makes it hard to look away.

Rodney has never been one to sit quietly when there’s an opportunity for a little mischief. Whether he’s tossing straw at a passing friend, poking someone’s foot or recruiting Ike for his next bit of trouble, he keeps his chimpanzee family entertained (and occasionally exasperated). He’s also one of our most enthusiastic painters, and this colorful creation seems right at home with his larger-than-life personality.
