Some Like It Hot – Victoria

14 × 11 inches | Wrapped canvas
Tempera on canvas

Warm washes of peach and pink mingle with vivid orange, golden yellow and deeper crimson in this richly layered abstract. Broad brushstrokes sweep across the canvas, while smaller drips and scattered marks give the composition a wonderfully spontaneous quality.

Victoria is one of the quieter personalities in Primate Rescue Center’s chimpanzee troop. At 54, she knows what she likes and generally prefers to steer clear of the commotion created by some of her more rambunctious companions. There’s something fitting about this painting’s warm, easygoing palette, even if its energetic brushwork suggests a livelier side.

Her longtime companion Zulu also contributed to this original work.
