Lilly
Resident
Lilly is a female long-tailed macaque who was surrendered during a United States Fish and Wildlife Services raid on an illegal breeder/dealer facility in Alabama. Lilly, estimated to be eight years old at arrival, was placed for care at the Primate Rescue Center on December 12, 2025. During her quarantine period, Lilly received an extensive medical exam that revealed a large tumor growing in her uterus. Because of the dangers of surgically removing a tumor that large, our veterinarian prescribed medication to shrink Lilly’s tumor and give her a better quality of life. Thankfully, the hormone treatment is working and we are seeing promising results as we continue to monitor her closely. Now that Lilly’s health is more stabilized, she is in the process of being introduced to fellow long-tailed macaque Carlos. We have seen many positive signs that Lilly and Carlos can continue to be companions, with both monkeys enjoying long grooming sessions and steady progress in learning to share food and enclosure space. Lilly is a very sweet girl, happily lip-smacking to her pal Carlos, her monkey neighbors, and her caregivers. She is known for making large nests using her favorite fluffy blankets and paper, and prefers to sleep under a blanket as well. When it comes to enrichment, Lilly enjoys lick boards with frozen fruit mash, playing with small toys, looking at her lovely self in a mirror, and playing in a pool of water. Her favorite foods are broccoli, berries and monkey chow biscuits.

A Sunny Winter’s Day at the Sanctuary
We're so thankful for these past few sunny days at the sanctuary! We still have snow on the ground, but so many of the primates spent time out in the sunshine this weekend! Check out the video for some scenes from the sanctuary on a sunny winter's day.
Intern Spotlight – Emilie Dixon
This summer we are delighted to have Emilie Dixon as our resident intern at the sanctuary! Emilie has been hard at work building enrichment for the monkeys - the Fire Hose/Container Feeder!
Say Please…The Magic of Operant Conditioning
At the heart of the Primate Rescue Center (PRC), the well-being of our primate residents takes center stage. One of the many ways we ensure their welfare is through our evolving operant conditioning program, meticulously spearheaded by our Carestaff Supervisor, Elizabeth Gatlin.
