No Straight Lines – Ike

30 × 30 inches | Wrapped canvas
Tempera paint on canvas

There’s no shortage of movement in this one. Sweeping strokes of cobalt blue, turquoise and green cross, curl and double back across the canvas, with flashes of orange and gold appearing between the layers. The result is a densely textured abstract painting that keeps the eye traveling.

Ike is one of Primate Rescue Center’s most vocal chimpanzees. Confident, expressive and rarely inclined to keep his opinions to himself, he has a presence that’s hard to miss. His name seems especially fitting beneath a painting this bold.

Fellow chimpanzees Rodney and Noelle also contributed to this original work, adding to its colorful layers and intersecting marks.
