Carlos
Resident
Carlos arrived at the sanctuary in September 2013 at a very young age – only 14 weeks old! He had been rescued from a pet situation in Texas and was brought to the PRC so that he could be raised by monkeys and live a more normal primate life. Carlos was initially introduced to Dewey and Crunchy, an older monkey couple who comforted tiny Carlos, made sure he was warm and safe, and taught him all about being a monkey. Now that Carlos is all grown up, he has become a strong and energetic monkey who loves to play with enrichment and search for hidden treats in his enclosure. He’s always happy to see his caregivers when they bring him his meals, and he is sure to greet them with a sweet macaque lip smack.

Carlos the Long Tailed Macaque
The exotic animal pet industry is rife with ethical problems. One of the more disturbing consequences of the pet trade is that infant monkeys are highly desirable and profitable to breeders and so are prematurely taken from their mother’s care and do...
