Resident

Carlos is a long-tailed macaque who was placed for care at the PRC in September 2013. Carlos came to Kentucky all the way from Abilene, TX where he was rescued from the pet trade and brought to the PRC at just 3 months old. In a first for the PRC, little Carlos arrived by private jet! Initially, Carlos was introduced to two older macaque residents, Dewey and Crunchy, and they accepted him into their family with open arms. His adoptive grandparents were very protective of Carlos and it was heartwarming to see their unique little family thrive. As he grew, Carlos’s youthful enthusiasm became a bit too much for his elderly grandparents. He was then placed with long-tailed macaques Luke and Ciera, and young rhesus macaque Rainey. This group was a great combo for a long while, but as Carlos reached adolescence he became aggressive with the others in his group and we decided to find a more suitable companion for him. Now, Carlos is in the early stages of introduction to a new PRC resident, Lilly long-tailed macaque. So far, this pair is getting along well and enjoying their new friendship. Carlos loves to be groomed from head to toe by Lilly, and fortunately, grooming is one of Lilly’s favorite things to do! Carlos is very active and loves to utilize all of the climbing structures in his enclosure. He enjoys splashing in his water pool and fishing for frozen berries and grapes. His favorite foods are blueberries, bananas, strawberries, and sweet potato. We’re so grateful that Carlos was given the opportunity to find sanctuary, friendship and a peaceful life at the Primate Rescue Center.
