Crimson and Clover – Donald

Donald, chimpanzee
Crimson and Clover, 2026
Tempera paint on canvas board
14 × 11 inches

Rich layers of clover green, crimson pink and yellow sweep across the canvas in thick, curling strokes. Colors fold into one another, creating a playful, almost mesmerizing sense of movement. There’s something wonderfully easy going about the way the colors mingle, with each glance revealing another little twist.

Donald has been the respected alpha male of his chimpanzee family for decades. He leads with calm confidence, generally preferring a good meal, some grooming or a comfortable place to nap over unnecessary excitement. He’s perfectly capable of taking charge when needed, but most days he’d rather leave the drama to someone else.

There’s a softer, more carefree side to this imposing chimpanzee, and this colorful little painting feels right at home with that Donald.
