Nikki
Nikki arrived at the PRC in October 2019 after being confiscated as an illegal pet from a home in Charles County, Maryland. After being cared for by the Maryland zoo during the state’s legal holding period for confiscated animals, Nikki was transferred to the Primate Rescue Center to receive proper care and companionship opportunities. Because she was only 4 months old when she arrived, her care plan had to be specialized to meet her age-specific needs. Initially, Nikki was welcomed with open arms and successfully introduced to an established pair of monkeys who became her surrogate parents for a few years. As Nikki grew a bit older, and another young vervet arrived at the sanctuary, we took the opportunity to introduce her to a new friend – Mowgli. This young pair are now growing up together and having tons of fun with their playful antics. Nikki is very spunky but also loves to have a nice nap wrapped up inside her favorite blankets. She enjoys grooming young Mowgli, and is very patient with him as he learns and grows. Nikki likes to play with toys that rattle and make noise, and her favorite foods are mangos and popcorn.
A Sunny Winter’s Day at the Sanctuary
We're so thankful for these past few sunny days at the sanctuary! We still have snow on the ground, but so many of the primates spent time out in the sunshine this weekend! Check out the video for some scenes from the sanctuary on a sunny winter's day.
